Nature Walks - Lantern Walk and Sky Stories!

Explore sky stories and the night sky with Rainbow Routes Association and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury!

This hike is held in partnership with the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury

Registering helps us organize and ensures you get last minute notifications such as cancellation due to extreme weather conditions or other changes. You will not receive a confirmation email immediately after registering, only the day before the hike. 

Join us for a guided exploration and discussion through the night sky.  Sky stories at the planetarium: 5:30 pm doors open, 5:45pm-6:15pm with Hoi Cheu (Doran planetarium director) and William Morin (Anishinaabe Knowledge Carrier). Will and Hoi will each tell a winter story under the planetarium's starry sky. Lantern walk on the trails to the LU beach, 6:15pm. Star stories at the beach with space scientist Olathe MacIntyre. Return by 7:30.


What to Expect
Planetarium talk from 5:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.

Nature Walk from 6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Our friendly staff will be there to help guide the walk.

Transit is free to this event (take bus #3).  Simply tell the driver you are attending the lantern walk. 

About the Hike
When: January 25th, 2025
Time: 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (approx. 1 hours, please arrive 15 minutes early if you are only joining us for the walk)
Distance: 2 km
Meet: Doran Planetarium (Fraser Building, Laurentian University)
Dress: Warm layers, comfortable boots, scarf, hat, and water bottle
Hike Leaders: Olathe MacIntyre & T.J. LaPlante

Our hikes will generally accommodate anyone able to walk on outdoor trails as per the above details. You'll find organizers wearing RRA dark blue vests at the hike.
